Illinois’s largest teachers union says a new survey shows widespread support across the state for public education… and for supporting teachers who have been struggling during the pandemic.

The Illinois Education Association commissioned the poll of 1,000 Illinoisans to get their perspective on education-related issues. It finds support for the union’s safety recommendations including a call for clear metrics for a return to full classroom instruction, and more readily available COVID testing.

It also says the public supports more funding for schools and higher pay to prevent experienced teachers from leaving the profession because of pandemic-related burnout.
