Two teachers have tested positive for the coronavirus, an education official said.
Superintendent of Schools Jody Goeler said two employees of the Adult Education program at Hamden High School were diagnosed with COVID-19 this week and both are quarantining per the district’s coronavirus health plan.
Adult education classes began at the school Monday and the teachers informed the district’s director of human resources of their positive tests late Wednesday, Goeler said.
Hamden High School was closed for the remainder of the week and the affected areas have undergone a deep cleaning, he said.
“We wish both staff members a speedy and full recovery,” Goeler said.
School staff aren’t required to undergo coronavirus testing before the school year starts, he said. As part of the return to school plan, school administrators were directed to ensure anyone in the buildings must wear face coverings and maintain social distancing guidelines, he said.
The rest of the Hamden school district is scheduled to begin Sept. 8. The Board of Education voted to implement a hybrid model of in-person and distance learning this year, with parents having the option of having their children engage in fully remote learning.
